The Beauty Within

There is so much beauty to be proud of about being Black, there are so many ways of being and how each of us relates to our own heritage is unique. On the other hand, there is a lot to learn, realise and counteract in what media and society present about the Black experience. Unlearning stereotypes and seeing the beauty inside and out, the courage in showing vulnerability, the ability, intelligence and potential we have takes time and confidence. Whether it is our hair, or our heritage or everything in between I hope little Black girls now and in the future grow up knowing that they are truly beautiful.

‘Hair is hair – yet it is also about larger questions: self-acceptance, insecurity and what the world tells you is beautiful. For many black women, the idea of wearing their hair naturally is unbearable.’
